Renowned photographer, Jerry Metellus, is known for his breathtaking visual storytelling that captures the essence of movement, emotion and the “undefinable”, resulting in captivating images that stir the senses and create long-lasting impact. A natural born seeker of knowledge and disciple of spreading positivity, working with Jerry is an experience far more joyful and disarming through his authentic and easy connection with people. A former performing artist in his own right (dancer, actor, model), Jerry brings over 30 years of experience working in fashion, commercial, and luxury lifestyle photography around the world.
Jerry’s life journey began as the son of Haitian parents. Born in Brooklyn, NY Jerry spent his first six years living in Haiti. His family then relocated to Montreal, Canada. Jerry’s early career as a performer took him to Tokyo, Paris, London, and several European cities. During this time, he began his fascination with photography and embarked on developing his skills and technique for his passion while performing. Using his fellow performers and models as subjects and his international location as a backdrop, Jerry immersed himself in developing his technical skills and his personal artistic vision.
Jerry settled in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1989 where he then established himself as the pre-eminent professional photographer, in demand for high-profile campaigns with global brands including artistic giant Cirque du Soleil, and hospitality powerhouses Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts International. Jerry is also well-versed in the editorial, fashion, celebrity, and luxury lifestyle genres. He appeared as a guest photographer on three seasons of American’s Next Top Model, as well as being published in Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam, among many other prestigious publications. Also sought after for photographing celebrities and professional athletes, Jerry has worked with award-winning artists such as Paula Abdul and Sarah Jessica Parker and sports figures such as Mike Tyson.
Jerry never forgot his love of the performing arts. He brought his visual arts skills full circle working with dancers and dance companies including Nevada Ballet, Contemporary West Dance Theater, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, members of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, and Philadanco, among others. Jerry’s work demonstrates an extraordinary eye and his ability to see the peak of a dancer’s movement in its fullest expression before it happens and capture the apex of form and movement. The result has become his calling card and earned him the respect and praise of his collaborators. Dancers are particularly thrilled at the experience of working with Jerry, the result of their sessions creating exhilarating portraits that capture and dramatize their skill and their spirit in powerful, lasting images that tell stories and express emotion. Fluent in French, English, and Creole, Jerry also dabbles in Italian. Most significantly and extraordinarily, Jerry is fluent in the language of positivity and creating lasting impact for everyone he works with.
